Visual Artist / Art Educator
Natalie Sze Wai

Natalie Sze Wai is a Toronto-based visual artist, (b.1997)born in Hong Kong. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Scenic Art from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. With roots in dance and performing art, she approaches painting as an extension of the body. Gestures, rhythms, and subtle movements unfold as flowing lines, ribbons, and colors that transform inner feelings into visual form. Her works often rest between stillness and motion, creating spaces for reflection while carrying a sense of ongoing energy.
Blending Symbolism and Surrealism, Natalie’s practice centers on self-exploration. Through poetic and metaphorical imagery, she investigates how emotions and personal experiences can be reimagined in visual language. Her use of color is inspired by the neon vibrancy of Hong Kong, while her life in Toronto has deepened her exploration of inner states and transformation. She has exhibited in Canada and the UK, participating in group and guided exhibitions. Her recent series Joy Amidst Pain (痛苦亦快樂著) reflects on the coexistence of suffering and joy, framed by the concept of “緣” (affinity or destined connection). Each work invites viewers to find meaning in contrasts and to embrace the complexity of human experience.
